Aloha. Feel free to contact us at Aloha Aku Inn & Suites if you have a question we did not answer below.
- Do you have mosquitos and bugs being in the tropics?
Mosquitoes in general in exist in the tropics and we do have to keep an eye out for occasional ants and other pesky creatures. We don’t have a problem here on our property because we live next to a natural wild water fowl sanctuary with ducks who eat the mosquitoes and their larvae. We also have a pest company that does regular treatments which mostly consists of bating the property so the bugs who eat the bait take it back to their nests. All is well as long as you don’t leave open food out on the counters and wipe up after cooking. You should not have any issues but if you see a “pesky critter” please let us know as we are a bit fanatical about the cleanliness of our suites.
Our humidity is not oppressive like they have in Florida, not even close. Generally, you will not even notice it unless you travel to the wetter regions of Maui. The South Maui area (where we are) is mostly a desert-like zone and noticeable humidity is very rare.
- How shall I pack, what are the temperatures?
On average temperatures range from the mid 70’s to the mid 80’s during the day with occasional spikes either way. Most people wear shorts, slippers or sandals, Hawaiian shirts and/or sundresses. Oh, and plan on spending a lot of time in swim suits. Except for a possible “fancy” dinner night, you will find Maui is very laid-back and casual.
- Where can I find local food?
Local food is fantastic here! There are several places nearby, some even within walking distance. Two of our favorites are Eskimo Kitchen and Da Kitchen.
- Is there shuttle or taxi service to your B&B?
There are shuttles and taxis but they are few and far between. If you want one it is best to make prior arrangements. Most people rent cars when they come to Maui and there are several rent-a-car companies at the airport, but there are also a 2-3 of them within easy walking distance of Aloha Aku Inn & Suites for one day or short term use. If you do get one locally for a few days then arrange to return it on the last day and they will take you to the airport as part of the service. Most people prefer to have a car to tour the island but it is not necessary to have one to enjoy the Kihei area.
- Where is there nightlife?
Locally check out Stella’s – great live music on the weekends and some evenings. Easy walking distance. Also there is Three’s Bar and Grill (a couple of minutes south on Kihei Rd in the Kihei Plaza). It has a fun dance floor and great drinks on the weekends and some evenings. Three’s is in the area the locals call the “triangle” which has a number of fun bar-pubs, a party attitude, and plenty of places to eat. Mulligans on the Blue (in Wailea) has a lot happening with live bands and a nice Irish pub feel.
- Do you have any extra discounts?
We offer a 5% discount off the room rates after any 7 night stay and another 5% off after the 28th day. If you do not want to partake in our continental breakfast, we are happy to take 5% off your room rates for that too. Other discounts are available so please just ask.
- Where do I get information about tours and fun activites?
There are several tour specialty booths within easy walking distance. We are in association with Barefoot Tours and you can reach them at 1-808-442-8479 or at http://www.barefoothawaii.com/AlohaAku . They are the biggest tour / event booking company in Hawaii and are the “island pros”. Contact them ahead of time to plan out and pre-book some of the hundreds of fun things to do on Maui. They are the best at giving you a lot of real relevant advice on what is great and maybe not so great!
- Where can I rent water sports or bikes and other activity equipment?
We have a lot of water sports equipment here on the property in our sports locker that is for our guest use only. Some of the items include paddle boards, kayaks, boogie boards, fins and snorkels. We also have bicycles and other fun equipment to use. There is no extra charge for use of our items but we do require you signing a liability waver. There are also a number of Equipment Rental vendors within an easy 2-4 minute drive that offer even more “toys” like mopeds, windsurfing or kite surfing equipment and more…
