ABOUT US

Char is a Maui girl at heart—raised just a few miles up the beach from Aloha Aku and a graduate of St. Anthony's High School. After college at Santa Clara University, she headed to Los Angeles and enjoyed a long career in the entertainment industry, working in everything from modeling and acting to producing, directing, and running production companies. In other words... she played Hollywood! 🎬

Gary took a different path, attended Purdue and studied engineering and computer science, spending much of his career in high tech, where he helped start and run successful companies in Silicon Valley and Southern California. A recognized Technologist and tech visionary, but his real passions have always included technology, cars, and racing. Over the years, he's raced everything from go-karts to road and oval cars, eventually bringing those interests together as the founder and team principal of Al Racing Tech situated in the UC Berkeley Engineering program. The UCB ART team competes in International Autonomous Motorsports competitions all of the world.

After years of busy careers and the fast pace of Los Angeles, in 2010 Gary and Char decided it was time for a change. Gary had always dreamed of island life, and Char was coming home to Maui. Nearly 20 years after they met, the timing finally felt right.

Today, they're happily settled on Maui, active in the local community, involved with nonprofit organizations, and enjoying the opportunity to share their love of the island through Aloha Aku Inn & Suites and the AlohaAKU Rental properties.
